PDP set to spoil Congress party

The Amarnath land row may have given BJP candidate Leela Karan Sharma an edge over sitting congress MP Madan Lal Sharma in the Jammu Lok  Sabha constituency, but the last word on Thursday could come from the sizeable Muslim votes in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
Many believe the Muslims will go with the PDP in the absence of the National Conference flag. The ruling NC is with the Congress, which is supporting the Omar Abdullah  goverment in the state, this time. The PDP had won two assembly seats in the NC bastion here in the last assembly election.
The more vote the PDP gets, the more it will help the BJP. Besides, the BSP has fielded a Gujjar candidate here. The Gujjar Muslim community has a 30% share in the electorate in jammu BJP candidate Sharma, who led the Amarnath land protests, has raised the issue during the campaign. The last year’s agitation led to the BJP winning a record 11 seats in the assembly elections in Jammu region. The PDP has campaigned on the issue of ‘‘non-performance’’ of the sitting Congress MP and unemployment among the youth.
PDP general secretary Daman Bhasin is optimistic that his party would spring a surprise.
